The Good Juice
Barolo ... expensive for a reason. There are certain things in life that simply cost more money than others, good Barolo is one of them.
The Good Juice this week puts its spotlight on the tiny Aurelio Settimo winery out of Piemonte. The winery has been producing wine from the same 16 acres in the heart of Barolo for close to fifty years . They turn out a traditional style of Barolo, that given time in the cellar, displays nuances and complexities that winemakers never dream of achieving with other varietals. We have the privilege to offer three wines from this tiny estate this week.

2007 Aurelio Settimo Dolcetto D'Alba | $21.95
The easiest drinking wine from the Settimo stable is the Dolcetto D'Alba. It offers all of the aroma and terroir of Piemonte without the hefty tannins and price tag associated with Barolo. The wine displays a classic nose of ripe red fruit, earthy truffle, marzipan and anise. It is drinking like a dream right now but also has the potential to cellar for another five years. A great match with richer northern Italian style pasta dishes.

2005 Aurelio Settimo Barolo Rocche | $54.95
The Rocche vineyard in Barolo has been the starting point for many great Barolo's over the years. Known for its power and aromatic qualities, it produces wine with ethereal aromas of truffle, roses, red berries and dried cherries. Here's what the critics have to say about this wine. "Sweet berry and vanilla aromas, with flowers and dried fruits. Very subtle. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a beautiful finish. Refined and gorgeous. Best from 2011 through 2016.

1999 Aurelio Settimo Barolo Rocche Riserva | $109.95 six packs
A first rate vintage for Piemonte, the Riserva is only produced in exceptional vintages. It is released from the winery after seven years, three of which the wine spends in large old oak barrels. This vintage is starting to hit its stride with nuances of rose petals, tar, leaf tobacco, mushrooms, sweet red berries, orange peel and cherries. The tannins are just beginning to soften, but the wine has enormous power and is a certain candidate for another 15 years of cellaring.
