2006 J Lohr Los Osos Merlot Paso Robles
Merlot may have taken it hard in the movie Sideways a few years back but let’s not forget the grape is responsible for some of the best wines that come out of Bordeaux and is, the majority of the time, a bigger portion of the blend than Cabernet Sauvignon. The Los Osos Merlot offers up luscious forward rich ripe fruit without the punch that Cabernet can give. “This Merlot is grand, succulent black cherry, cedar and vanilla” 90 points Gord on Grapes.

2007 J Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles
It’s no secret that Paso Robles produces wines that offer up generous full flavours with almost every vintage and that’s no secret to Jerry Lohr who’s been farming grapes in this area since the early 70’s. The Seven Oaks Cabernet is the winery’s calling card; it has to offer great value, loads of flavour and have ample personality. 2007 turned out to be incredibly dry with just 4 inches of rain registering, resulting in some of the lowest yields seen in a decade and one of the richest Seven Oaks we’ve seen in a long time. “This densely coloured red is packed with intense aromas of black cherry, vanilla and spice. A terrific wine to give as a gift as it appeals to many palates”
90 points Natalie Maclean.

2004 Cantele Salice Salentino Puglia
This riserva bottling from Cantele delights with its gutsy macho nose and powerful flavours. The wines of Puglia continue to impress with their full bodied richness and there easy drinkability. Wine and Spirits Magazine recently gave the wine this glowing review: “The aromas of bacon fat and smoke dominate the notes of rose and plum when it is first poured. A blend of Negro Amaro and Malvasia Nera, it gains depth with air, melding umami richness with vibrant acidity. Decant” 92 points Wine and Spirits.

2006 Farnese Edizione Cinque Autoctoni
As the name implies, this wine -- a favourite of ours -- is a blend of five native varieties, Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Malvasia nera and Negro Amaro. The fruit is sourced from both Puglia and Abruzzo, and therefore the wine can’t carry a formal regional designation or vintage (although you’ll find the year indicated on the lot number on the back label). Here’s what Parker had to say about the wine: “Super ripe, opulent red bursting with soft textured dark fruit. The wine possesses compelling inner perfume along with tons of complexity in an extroverted full bodied style.” 92 points Parkers Wine Advocate.
