The Good Juice – On Vintages - March 4, 2017

Nine Wines to Look For at the LCBO This Weekend! - COMING TO VINTAGES!

We have nine new wines releasing at the LCBO this weekend:

Anton Bauer GMork Gruner Veltliner Wagram Osterre 2014 has a wonderful and brilliant yellow colour. The nose is fruity and exotic with some spicy notes with a rich and fine bouquet.

Lion’s Tooth of McLaren Vale Shiraz Riesling 2014 from Dandelion Vineyards has rich aromas of rose petals and a summer pudding of lifted red fruits, berries and a little lime marmalade from the co-fermentation with the aromatic Eden Valley Riesling. Wild cherries, blueberries, and mulberries and an impressive structure balanced by spicy oak.

Domaine Auvigue Macon Solutre Le Moulin du Pont 2014 is fruity with floral aromas, a mineral touch and hints of white flowers. You will find it has good length in the mouth.

Vicente Faria Gloria Reserva 2014 has deep rich fruit, which is met by round tannins - enough to give the wine strong presence - yet remaining very easy drinking. Complex fruity aromas of ripe red fruits and cinnamon spice are balanced with auspicious flavours, full of fruit, gentle spice and smooth tannins.

Castelli del Grevepesa Castelgreve Chianti Classico Riserva 2011 shows a very intense ruby red colour. The aromas are complex and elegant with some woody notes. Soft on the palate, well balanced with a persistent aftertaste.

Lungarotti Cabernet Sauvignon Umbria Rosso IGT 2014 has an elegant and delicate bouquet, with some hints of green spices, cassis and tobacco. The mouth has a lovely acidic freshness and soft tannins; finish is harmonious and persistent.

Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2014 is a clean, intense, fresh wine. On the nose it shows pineapple and apricot aromas accompanied by asparagus and artichoke nuances, while the butterscotch and vanilla notes given by its French oak ageing adds complexity to the wine.

Pierre Sparr Cremant D’Alsace Brut Rose has fresh aromas of strawberry and raspberry. Nicely bodied with delicate bubbles, the flavours are intense on the palate with a lively acidity, framed in a well-made structure. The finish is clean, dry and smooth.

Wakefield Jaraman Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 has a deep red colour to the centre with a vibrant purple hue to the edges. The wine displays lifted aromas of blackcurrant, cassis and subtle chocolate-mint characters along with complex spice and cigar box from the oak. This is a rich full-bodied wine that will benefit from time in the bottle. It is a well-balanced wine across the palate with fine, elegant tannins – the hallmark of great Cabernet.

Anne Krebiehl MW, Wine Enthusiast, September 1, 2015

“A subtle nose of lemon leads to a chorus of zesty, citrusy freshness: rind of lemon, grapefruit and mandarin make for a streamlined, concentrated and incredibly refreshing palate with a tangy moreishness. The purity of this wine shines. This is lovely now but will develop through 2020.”

James Halliday, October 6, 2016

“Wham bang; doesn't shout, even whimper, riesling, just McLaren Vale riding high on a broomstick of dark chocolate. Adventurous winemaking.”

Rated 90
Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, June 15, 2016

Rated 92 & Editors’ Choice
Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, February 1, 2017

“This balanced, rich wine is produced by a family company dating to the 19th century. It has tannins, signs of wood aging and layers of black fruits. Still young, it will develop well into a solid, concentrated wine. Drink from 2020.”

Tasting Notes
VINTAGES panel, April 2016

Founded in the early 1960s by Giorgio Lundarotti, the estate is now run by his daughters Chiara Lungarotti and Teresa Severini. Their 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a lovely take on the most popular grape in the world. Complex notes of cassis, red berry and tobacco on both the nose and palate. Good structure and length at a very nice price. Enjoy with burgers or meat stew.
Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2014 +390203 $19.95

Rated 92
James Suckling, May 12, 2016

“A chardonnay with lovely freshness yet shows light oiliness and richness. Full body, soft tannins and a rich and flavorful finish of cooked apples, cream and pie crust. 30% malolactic. Long and rich. Drink now.”
Pierre Sparr Cremant D’Alsace Brut Rose +39016 $18.95

Rated 90
Natalie MacLean, December 6, 2014

“Superb quality and taste for the price! Toasty with some field raspberry notes. Bone-dry and refreshing. Here's your summer party bubbly. Bring it on! A terrific producer and well-known in Alsace and around the world. This bubbly is made using the traditional champagne method from only pinot noir grapes.”
Wakefield Jaraman Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 +142398 $24.95

Rated 92 & Gold Medal
Tastings.com, December 27, 2016

“Nearly opaque dusty garnet violet color. Aromas and flavors of chocolate mint, spiced cassis, menthol, and cherry cola with a satiny, tangy, fruity medium-to-full body and a smooth, nuanced, medium-long candied citrus peels, green plum, sandalwood, and Arnold Palmer finish with well-integrated, dusty, chewy tannins and moderate oak. A robust, spicy cabernet that will stand up to the heartiest of dishes.”
