The Good Juice – On Vintages - April 15, 2017

Six Great Wines to Enjoy This Long Weekend! - COMING TO VINTAGES!

We have six new wines releasing at the LCBO this weekend:

Lealtanza Seleccion de la Familia Reserva 2009 from Bodegas Altanza has a dark maraschino cherry colour, with garnet glints at the edge. Harmonious blend of black cherry, licorice, fig, pepper, clove, tobacco and a hint of leather. Fresh and tasty all the way through.

Bodegas LAN, D-12 2013 has an intense red cherry colour with violet nuances. Aromas of red and black fruits blended with the notes of coffee, licorice and chocolate. Tasty on the mouth, elegant on the palate, leaving a long and lingering finish.

Chateau de Nages JT White 2013 has a beautiful golden colour with greenish glints. The nose is filled with scents of lime-tree, anise, apricot and toasted almond. Taste is silky, with deep scents of candied fruits and dried flowers. The long fruity finish is sustained by fresh wooded notes.

Mary Kathleen Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Reserve 2012 from Coriole has dark and broody aromas of plum, chocolate and cassis. The palate is fine and elegant with mouth filling texture and subtle, refined tannins.

Vicente Faria Animus DOC 2014 is a combination of three indigenous Portuguese grapes. The wine has aromas of ripe red fruit and a touch of spice. Flavours of red fruits, purple plum, cedar and great tannins.

J. Lohr Arroyo Vista Chardonnay 2014 has aromas of Cornish apple, stone fruit and lemon, with cinnamon and allspice undertones. The Burgundian winemaking techniques, including alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel with lees stirring and extended aging, contribute a complex bouquet of toasted brioche, crème brulée, and roasted hazelnuts

James Suckling, July 16, 2015

“So much burnt orange, citrus peel and dried fruits on the nose. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Long and flavorful. Drink or hold.”

Bodegas LAN D-12 2013 +431890 $29.95 (Very Limited Quantities)

Rated 88
Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, August 30, 2016

“The 2013 D 12 seems to have benefited from a cooler growing season. It shows aromas of red fruit and good acidity, even if it lacks a little in the mid palate, which could be the shortcoming of the challenging harvest.”
Chateau de Nages JT White 2013 +485854 $25.95 (Flagship Store Exclusive; Very Limited Quantities)

Rated 93
Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, January 2015

“The top white of the estate, the 2013 Costières de Nîmes Cuvee Joseph Torres is drop dead gorgeous, and at the price, shockingly good. A blend of 80% Roussanne and 20% Viognier that was barrel fermented and aged 8 months on lees, it boasts rock star notes of apple tart, sautéed nuts, honeysuckle and crème in its medium to full-bodied, pure, crisp yet textured style. But it by the case and drink it over the coming year or three.”
Mary Kathleen Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Reserva 2012 +745489 $39.95

Rated 94
James Suckling, February 12, 2016

“I've long admired this wine, it shows a regal expression of cabernet that delivers both purity and itensity with plenty of cassis and leafy briary aromas, gently tarry and packed with cassis flavors on the palate. Tannins are long, ripe and full of life. Best from 2018.”
Vicente Faria Animus DOC 2014 +385302 $12.95

Rated 90 & Silver
Decanter World Wine Awards 2016

“Lovely vanilla, mocha, mint and cassis notes on the nose. Some signs of development with a tobacco leaf note starting to emerge on the juicy red fruit palate.”
J. Lohr Arroyo Vista Chardonnay 2014 +171272 $34.95

Rated 92
Matt Kattmann, Wine Enthusiast, November 1, 2016

“Aromas of orange bread, jasmine and poached Asian pear cling to a steely edge on the nose of this sharp and zesty bottling. Mouthwateringly ripe flavors of yellow pear, toasted almond, cashew and sea salt play on the palate.”
