The Good Juice – On Vintages - July 22, 2017

Seven Wines to Look for at the LCBO This Weekend! - COMING TO VINTAGES!

We have seven new wines releasing at the LCBO this weekend:

Chateau de Berne Rose 2016 has a very shiny, pale salmon-pink colour with a pretty iridescent shimmer. The bouquet is fresh and lively, with fairly powerful aromas of yellow fruit and citrus zests. Frank, complex and seductive in the mouth, with a long, smooth finish. A pleasure-filled, summertime rosé.

Chateau Vincens Prestige Cahors 2014 has juicy mulberry, dark plum and ripe cherry flavour and notes of vanilla and spices. It is a medium to full bodied wine, soft on the palate with silky tannins and a hint of smoke, and has a long and intense finish.

Lioness of the McLaren Vale Shiraz 2015 from Dandelion Vineyards has a deep purple colour with hints of violet on the edges, indicating youth. Impressive purity of fruit showing lush scents of summer pudding with lifted red fruits, berries and a hit of cinnamon. Undertones of wild black cherries, Damson plums, mulberries and milk chocolate.

Domaine Voarick Mercurey 1er Cru Clos Paradis 2014 has a garnet red colour with brilliant tints. Intense and complex nose with black fruit (blackberry and blueberry) aromas as well as some vanilla and oak grilled bread tinges in the final. Fleshy, intense and structured, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated. It will procure a nice minerality aftertaste.

Jean-Luc Colombo Les Forots Cotes du Rhone 2015 has an intense and bright purple colour with harmonious notes of licorice, ripe fruits, and a touch of mint. It has a distinct softness and beautiful balance with supple and elegant tannins.

Villa Sandi Prosecco Superiore DOCG Cuvee Oris Dry has a very pale straw yellow colour with persistent perlage. The bouquet has a fruity and flowery aroma with hints of ripe yellow apple, banana, delicate melon and acacia flowers. It is fresh, fruity and slightly sweetish to the palate with a great underlying softness; lingering aftertaste.

Wakefield Estate Pinot Noir Adelaide Hills 2016 has lifted cherry, plum and strawberry notes with restrained spice and cedar characters. The wine is medium-bodied with flavours of ripe cherry along with subtle savoury characters.

Chateau de Berne Rose 2016 +490847 $26.95

Rated 89
Michael Godel, WineAlign, June 2017

“The tall rectangular bottle is 100 per cent better for sales and the Rosé inside lives up to the billing. Quite tart and in delivery of a fine impression, this is classic dry, strawberry savoury fruit Provence with a good long finish. A touch of red apple skin adds flavour and then a shake or two of pepper. Drink 2017-2019. Tasted June 2017.”

Chateau Vincens Prestige Cahors 2014 +272427 $18.95

Rated 92
Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2017

“The blend of Malbec and Merlot allows the wine to develop relatively quickly, broadening out the tannins of the Malbec. This wine is ripe with black and red berry fruits, packed with both acidity and dry tannins. It is developing into a generous and full-bodied wine. Drink from 2017.”
Dandelion Vineyards Lioness of the McLaren Vale Shiraz 2015 +357475 $21.95

Rated 4 ½ Stars
winecurrent.com, July 2017

“Lifted aromas of eucalyptus and spice abound in this much-medaled Shiraz followed by a spice and tang-laden wave of red currant, tangy pomegranate and cassis. This is full bodied with considerable texture and lingering, balanced finish decorated with ripe tannin on the aftertaste. Aerate/decant a couple of hours before serving alongside rare-grilled and well-seasoned flank steak.”
Domaine Voarick Mercurey 1er Cru Clos Paradis 2014 + 86603 $36.95

Rated 90
David Lawrason, WineAlign, July 4, 2017

“Mercurey is always on my radar for quite fine if rustic pinots. This has a lovely nose of cran-cherry fruit, cinnamon, gentle smoke and woodsy notes. Classic pinot aromas in my mind. It is mid-weight, fairly taut, sour edged and a bit tannic - but it has drive and intensity. The length is excellent. Age it a year or three.”
Jean-Luc Colombo Les Forots Cotes du Rhone 2015 +494641 $21.95

Rated 90
Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast, May 2017

“A strong effort from Jean-Luc and his team, the 2014 Les Forots is a nearly 50-50 blend of Grenache and Syrah. It offers layers of ripe fruit, ample weight and a supple mouthfeel, with just hints of garrigue for complexity and interest. Drink now–2022.”
Villa Sandi Prosecco Superiore DOCG Cuvee Oris Dry +738542 $19.95

Vintages Panel, July 2017

“Prosecco is a beloved and delicious aperitif, but it also serves as a wonderful palate refresher between courses, and a food-friendly and versatile dinner partner. Expect to uncover pear, apple and citrus tones with a crisp vibrancy that will make this a great pairing for grilled salmon, shrimp or herbed chicken breast.”
Wakefield Estate Pinot Noir Adelaide Hills 2016 +197392 $19.95

Rated 4 ½ Stars
Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com, July 2017

“Lifted aromas of red berry fruit, cherry and savory herb set the table for a smorgasbord of palate-coating flavour. Racy passion fruit and tangy red currant interweave with juicy black cherry and ripe raspberry berry notes providing a yin and yang / sweet and tang experience that’s balanced and beautiful. It’s medium-weight and well textured with a dry, mouth-watering finish that lingers—you shouldn’t, the price-quality balance tips well in your favour.”
