The Good Juice – On Vintages - August 5, 2017

Six Wines to Look for at the LCBO This Weekend! - COMING TO VINTAGES!

We have six new wines releasing at the LCBO this weekend:

Elegant and powerful, the 2014 Bodega Garzon Tannat greets you with beautiful aromas of raspberry and red cherry followed by delicious flavors of black plum, rhubarb and tobacco mixed with dark chocolate and white pepper. Palate has a finish that presents a brilliant tension between silky tannins and supple fruit.

The 2016 Susana Balbo Signature Rosé is an elegant wine, well-balanced and crisp . It has fresh, citric, mineral and sweet red berry aromas and a well textured palate that offers juicy strawberry and cherry flavours. The finish is persistent and elegant.

Argyle Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2015 displays the concentration and power of the Eola-Amity Hills, with the lithe delicacy of the Dundee Hills. Fermented in stainless steel and French oak barrels, the wine is all bright fruit clarity and precision. The middle palate is energetic crunchy lemon and white peach, balanced with an underlying subtle, spicy creaminess. The natural acidity is buoyant and fresh, finishing long, clean, and pure.

Pale yellow colour with green hues, the 2015 Donatien Bahuaud Vouvray Les Grands Mortiers has a fruity nose of green apple and pears. It is well-balanced with a delicious sweetness, aromas of pears, honey and citrus. A lively, refreshing and mouth watering finish on mineral and green apple notes.

Guy Allion Domaine du Haut Perron Sauvignon A Touraine 2015 is clear and bright with a beautiful pale yellow colour with green glints. The nose has pronounced aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers characteristic of this grape (ie. elderflower) as well as notes of boxwood. On the palate, it is supple and well balanced with a certain raciness. The wine has good length and is pleasant to drink.

A wine with a great structure with intense ruby red colour with some purple reflections, Pietra Pura Mandus Primitivo di Manduria 2015 has a wide range of aromas of ripe cherries, plums and pleasant notes of cocoa and vanilla.

Bodega Garzon Tannat 2014 +497008 $18.95

Rated 95 & Gold Medal
Decanter World Wine Awards 2016

“Pleasantly fresh on the nose. The palate is generous and expressive with a plethora of ripe, juicy black fruits and a clean, pure mineral expression. Tannins are medium plus but really approachable and well balanced by a beautiful fruit. A perfect execution.”

Dominio del Plata Susana Balbo Signature Rose 2016 +493130 $20.95

Rated 92
James Suckling, June 21, 2017

“A fresh and clean wine with hints of rose and peach. Medium body, crisp acidity and flavorful finish. Complex and dry. 60% malbec and 40% pinot noir.”
Argyle Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2015 +946640 $29.95

Rated 91 & 3 Star Value Rating
John Szabo, WineAlign, July 2017

“This is a finely-tuned, very fresh and sharp, minimally-oaked chardonnay from the Willamette Valley, with fine depth and length. I like the tingling acids, the precise pear and apple flavours and salinity, and the wet stone character. Complex, classy, composed.”
Donatien Bahuaud Vouvray Les Grands Mortiers 2015 +140889 $18.95

Rated 90
Natalie MacLean, August 2017

“This Vouvray also features lemon zest, mango and some lovely, luxurious candle wax notes (the latter, more texture than flavour). Very viscous, voluptuous and mouth-filling. This lovely Loire Valley Chenin Blanc offers floral notes. It's zesty and festive with attractive aromas of white peach. A terrific aperitif or companion to vegetarian dishes. A lick of sweetness makes it versatile with dishes such as glazed ham.”
Guy Allion Domaine du Haut Perron Sauvignon A Touraine 2015 +489856 $16.95

Rated 88 & 2 Star Value Rating
John Szabo, WineAlign, July 2017

“An open and fragrant, very ripe and tropical sauvignon, offering passion fruit and especially guava flavours, more in the new world style. Tight acids bring it back to the old world, however. Very good length. More typical varietal 'sauvignon' than classic Loire Valley, reasonably priced in any case.”
Pietra Pura Mandus Primitivo di Manduria 2015 +216457 $17.95

Vintages Panel, November 2016

“This wine is produced with Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) grapes selected from the area of San Marzano in the Salento region of Puglia, Italy's stiletto-boot heel. Sweet-ripe and smoky, it serves up big blueberry, blackberry, cherry, plum and chocolate notes. Pair with grilled burgers and blackened eggplant, and don't spare the garlic!”
