The Good Juice – On Vintages - October 28, 2017

Wine to Look for at the LCBO This Weekend! - COMING TO VINTAGES!

We have five new wines releasing at the LCBO this weekend:

Pierre Sparr Gewurztraminer Reserve 2016 has classic articulations of lychee, pineapple, grapefruit, rose petal and spice. Look for a long, fruity, subtly spiced finish, and pair the wine with sashimi, or pork sausages or seafood hot off the grill.

Pierre Sparr Cremant Brut Rose shines in a bright salmon colour, with fine sparkles bubbling in the glass. The first aromas are reminiscent of lemon peel, strawberry jam and white pepper, together with crispy mineral notes. After a while, the wine opens up to an aromatic of apricots and strawberries. On the palate, overall pleasant and harmonious balanced between strong body, extract and fresh fruit-acid, which is well supported by a tasty hint soft tannins.

Querceto Chianti Classico Riserva 2013 is a full ruby red, wide, well expressed wine, with red fruit and floral aromas. It expresses elegant tannins supported by a persistent and balanced final.

Ruby red in colour, the Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico Riserva Famiglia Zingarelli 2014 has an ample nose, which is intense and refined, with an excellent variety of aromas. The taste is warm, robust, and elegant with a persistent aroma.

Yellow with golden highlights due to its ageing, the Fermi Bohigas Brut Reserva D.O. Cava has very fine bubbles with a slow, regular detachment. It has highly complex aromas, combining fresh fruit with jam and syrup. On the whole, it offers long development, always with freshness as the focus of perception and advancing to fine notes of toast, dried fruit and nuts, spices and a touch of minerals.

Pierre Sparr Gewurztraminer Reserve 2016 +747600 $18.95

Natalie MacLean, May 13, 2017

“A terrific Alsatian white wine with classic Gewürztraminer aromas of lychee, rosewater, grapefruit and baking spice. Pair with spicy and Asian dishes.”

Pierre Sparr Cremant Brut Rose +39016 $19.95

Rated 90
Natalie MacLean, December 6, 2014

“Superb quality and taste for the price! Toasty with some field raspberry notes. Bone-dry and refreshing. Here's your summer party bubbly. Bring it on! A terrific producer and well-known in Alsace and around the world. This bubbly is made using the traditional champagne method from only pinot noir grapes.”
Castello di Querceto Chianti Classico Riserva 2013 +650754 $28.95

Rated 91
Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, January 31, 2017

“Here is a fantastic value buy from the heart of Tuscany. Darkly saturated and perhaps more influenced by oak aging, the 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva opens to a deep garnet color and velvety texture. The wine is slightly more immediate and boasts a thicker style with dark fruit and dried tobacco. Given the tertiary aromas already on display, I would recommend this Riserva for near-term drinking.”
Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico Riserva Famiglia Zingarelli 2014 +930966 $23.95

Rated 91
Natalie MacLean, October 28, 2017

“A polished, silky Italian red wine with racy acidity and black fruit and toasty oak aromas. Lots of dark plum notes and mocha on the mid-palate and finish. This robust Chianti Classico is a red wine made from the Sangiovese grape with a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, and the wine is aged for 24 months in French Allier barrels. Pair with pasta in a meat sauce or grilled meats. Decant 1 hour. Polished tannins, good concentration of flavour.”
Fermi Bohigas Brut Reserva D.O. Cava +401216 $18.95

Rated 90
Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, August 2015

“Dusty, leesy aromas of apple and vanilla are sturdy. This brut Cava is fresh and modestly elegant on the palate, with lime, apple and tarragon flavors. A dry, confident finish offers apple and citrus flavors and a sense of ease.”
