The Good Juice – On Vintages - December 9, 2017

Wine to Look for at the LCBO This Weekend! - COMING TO VINTAGES!

We have four new wines releasing at the LCBO this weekend:

Wakefield Estate Merlot 2016 is a vibrant, youthful red with an intense red/purple hue. At release, the wine showcases layers of ripe, dark fruit alongside rich fruit cake characters. The texture is exactly as you would expect with a velvety softness. Oak maturation has delivered flavours of vanilla, mocha and subtle spice and the finish has a pleasing degree of elegance. This wine can be enjoyed upon release but will reward careful cellaring up to and possibly beyond 2023.

Montes Limited Selection Pinot Noir 2015 is bright cherry red with magenta at the rim. The nose is very fruity with sweet notes of strawberries and fresh cherries. Light forest-like aromas intermingle with a floral note. The very well-integrated oak lends elegance and complexity through lightly toasty aromas of hazelnuts and vanilla. The palate is well balance and shows delicious acidity. The nearly imperceptible tannins lead the way to a mildly sweet sensation. With medium volume and good persistence on the palate, this Pinot Noir delivers a vibrant mouthful of fruit and elegance at the same time.

Palais de L’Ombriere Coll. Du Palais des Deucs Bord Sup. 2015 Kosher is a deep ruby red colour. This wine showcases distinctly floral aromas with sweet, fresh, dark red fruits and liquorice notes. The palate is soft and fresh, with a good length, supple textures and a bright finish.

Enterizo Brut Nature Cava is straw yellow with pronounced, slightly greenish tones, small, fine, continuous bubbles, and nice tidy beading. Hints of citrus and tropical fruit against a backdrop of wet grass and confectionery-like aromas, including pastries and candy, a clean character, and a forceful entry to the palate. The bubbles gently burst and gradually fill the palate, leaving a fresh, citrus sensation. A dry and remarkably elegant finish with aromas of caramelized apple with fine honey and lemon caramel overtones and long-lingering retro-nasal aromas.

Wakefield Estate Merlot 2016 +683201 $19.95

Rated 90
Natalie MacLean, December 9, 2017

“Loads of flavour that almost jumps from the glass in the robust Merlot. Juicy and fleshy with purple and black plum aromas on this vibrant Australian red wine, with lots of mouth-watering acidity for food. Although the Merlot grape is grown in many regions around the world, the signature here in the glass is definitely Australian. Smooth and full-bodied. Terrific price! Attractive smoke and dark fruit on the finish. Perfect for pizza!”

Montes Limited Selection Pinot Noir 2015 +37937 $14.95

Rated 90 & Silver Medal
Decanter World Wine Awards 2017

“Smoky, savory ripe plum nose; soft, creamy sweet oak, dense and chewy; vivid, long and dense.”
Enterizo Brut Natura Cava +516716 $14.95

LCBO Vintages Panel, February 2017

“Primarily Macabeo with Xarello and Parellada, this Cava offers tremendous value. Sourced from limestone and clay soils, it is floral with a notable grapefruit citrus tone on the nose and baked bread autolytic notes. The plate is fresh and crisp, with stone fruit and mineral tones. Excellent integration and balance with good length. A nice value alternative to Champagne for your holiday celebrations.”
