The Good Juice – On Vintages - January 20, 2018

Wine to Look for at the LCBO This Weekend! - COMING TO VINTAGES!

We have six new wines releasing at the LCBO this weekend:

The 2016 Morambro Creek Jip Jip Rocks Shiraz Cabernet showcases aromas of boysenberry and mulberry with a hint of cedar and pepper. Similar berry fruits show through on the opulent, textured palate with a lingering finish.

Montes Outer Limits CGM 2016 presents a deep and bright ruby red colour with aromas suggesting ripe black and red fruits (plums, blackberries, and dried figs) with a touch of cinnamon. The palate presents tremendous body and good structure with balanced freshness and elegant persistence.

Chateau Vincens Origine AOC Cahors 2014 is a dark red colour with red blue shades. On the nose there are juicy berry flavours with notes of vanilla and spices. It is a medium bodied wine with soft and silky tannins.

Tenuta L’Impostino Montecucco Rosso DOC 2011 has fragrant, clean, rich flavours with dominant notes of red pulp (well matured cherry and blackberry) with a hint of jam. Following it, vegetal notes appear, warm spices and a hint of wood to extend its bouquet. It is warm, soft, and full-bodied to taste, with remarkable balance, where the freshness and the tannin well balance the alcohol charge. The final result is long and very satisfying.

The bouquet of the Mastroberardino Mastro Greco Campania IGT 2016 shows fresh flowers, pineapple, peach and citrus. It has a good balance of acidity and freshness on the mouth with notes of citrus and quince.

The 2015 Velenosi Brecciarolo Rosso Piceno Superiore has an intense bouquet with remarkable juicy red fruits as well as very fresh violets, with hints of dark spices. Elegant vanilla notes complete its complex bouquet. The taste is persistent, warm, full-bodied and well-orchestrated. It delivers the same notes to the palate as to the nose. A distinguished and equally charismatic wine. .

Morambro Creek Jip Jip Rocks Shiraz Cabernet +186114 $16.95

Rated 93, Best Buy & Gold, March 23, 2017

“Dark black violet color. Aromas and flavors of wet earth, blackberry jam, saddle, and smoked poblano pepper with a slightly chewy, vibrant, dry medium-to-full body and a peppery, refreshing, medium-long lavender, twigs and stems, and dried pomegranate finish with chewy, dusty tannins and moderate oak. Well-integrated aromas and flavors along with a rustic yet refined edge make wine drinkers seeking adventure beg for another sip.”
Montes Outer Limits CGM 2016 +541136 $27.95

Rated 92
Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, April 28, 2017

“It's been a while since I last tasted the Mediterranean red blend, and they are already selling the 2016 Outer Limits CGM, which blends 50% Carignan (Cariñena), 30% Grenache (Garnacha) and 20% Mourvedre (Monastrell) from high density, slope vineyards in Apalta on granite soils. The grapes underwent a seven-day cold soak and then fermented with selected yeasts followed by six months in second and third use French oak barrels. 2016 was a cooler than average year, and the wine is definitively fresher. It has an expressive nose with a mixture of Mediterranean herbs and a lactic twist. The cooler year made them harvest some of the grapes a little earlier, and the wine is spicier, a different expression, almost as if it was from a cooler zone. There are some grainy tannins that would welcome some food. They have been lowering the oak, and the wine is different, younger, with less alcohol, easy to drink.”

Chateau Vincens Origine AOC Cahors 2014 +343400 $19.95

Rated 92 & Editors Choice
Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2017

“This is a ripe and opulent wine. It has rich tannins and generous black fruits but it still offers a spicy wood-aging flavor. As it develops, the intense fruits and smoky flavors will come to dominate, while always preserving the structure of the wine. It is a wine to age a bit, so drink from 2017.”

Tenuta L’Impostino Montecucco Rosso DOC 2011 +519165 $21.95

Rated 93
Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, November 15, 2016

“Aromas of cherry, plum and licorice turn to sweet orchard fruit on the palate. Tar, leather and graphite notes add complexity, allowing this to cruise to a long aftertaste. Shows fine harmony and expression. Drink now through 2020.”
Mastroberardino Mastro Greco Campania IGT 2016 +528869 $16.95

Rated 88
Michael Godel, WineAlign, January 11, 2018

“Entry-level and fashionable does not get more southern Italian or in personal varietal than Mastroberardino’s fleshy greco, a white so lithe and substantial at the same time. A rock saltiness pervades fruit markedly yellow peach and plum juicy. Campania bottled, signed sealed and incarnate. Drink 2018-2020.”
Velenosi Brecciarolo Rosso Piceno Superiore 2015 +732560 $14.95

Rated 90
Luca Maroni 2018
