Chateau Peyros Vieilles Vignes Madiran 2013 +243997 $19.95
Red cherry colour; intense and brilliant. The nose is now well opened with intense notes of fruits (cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant) with notes of vanilla and lightly toasted. The mouth is both powerful and elegant. Tannins are present and well coated. On the palate, fruit aromas really dominating with a long finish.
Food Pairing: roasted meat, (lamb, beef), saucy meat, spicy beef tartar, duck breast.
93 pts - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, July 1, 2017
“Vines up to 50-years-old are the basis of this rich and tannic wine. While it does have some age, it still has a way to go. Big bold tannins show strongly along with ripe black-plum skins. The wood aging has given this wine a smooth elegant edge that contrasts with the still young fruitiness. Drink from 2021”
Dominio del Plata BenMarco Expresivo 2016 +263517 $39.95
Deep, bright ruby showing blackberry, blueberry and floral character. Chalk, earthy and floral notes. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a superb finish.
Food Pairing: Grilled meats, veal, medium-strong cheeses and spicy sauces.
96 Pts – James Suckling, April 5, 2018
“This really builds on the nose with notes of pure blackcurrants, iodine, ink, graphite, crushed stones, flint, morello-cherry essence and licorice. The fresh purity of the fruit that permeates the entire palate is what makes this wine. The tannins are so compact and dialed-in, framing tons of violet and lavender flavors and carrying them long on the finish. 75% malbec and 25% cabernet franc. Drink in 2022.”
Castelli del Grevepesa Clemente VII Chianti Classico Riserva 2013 +643205 $23.95
Intense ruby red coloured wine with a flavour marked by hints of wild berries well integrated with a note of spices and vanilla. The taste is warm, full bodied and harmonious with a persistent aftertaste.
Food Pairing: Grilled and roasted red meat, including game recipes and ripe cheese.
92 pts - James Suckling, August 22, 2016
“A density and freshness to this with oyster shell, blueberry and dark chocolate character. Full and savory. Drink now or hold.”
Peter Franus Zinfandel Napa Valley 2014 +577387 $44.95
Medium ruby in colour, it offers a charming, bright and lively nose with blackberry, vanilla, dried herbs, vanilla, and subtle sweet oak in the background. The mouth begins with similar flavours but moves toward a black cherry profile that finishes with white pepper and anise notes. Medium-bodied and structured, a Zinfandel that unexpectedly surprises!
92 pts - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, May 1, 2018
“Baked earth, mocha and vanilla characterize this field blend of 90% zinfandel with a rough mix of 10% Mourvèdre, Charbono, and Carignan. Robust on the pallet with a textured feel, it's full-bodied with bright, underlying acidiy and black peppery finish.”
J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 +246918 $97.95
The 2014 vintage of J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon expresses savoury fruit elements wrapped in a barrel signature of hazelnut and cocoa powder. Firm and angular in structure with red and blue fruits on the finish.
91 pts - James Laube, Wine Spectator, October 31, 2017
“Dense and compact, tight and concentrated, this offers loads of rich fruit, with tiers of dark berry, graphite, sage, cedar and crushed rock...Best from 2020 through 2034. 2,341 cases made.”
Chateau de Nages Vieilles Vignes Red 2015 Organic +40964 $19.95
Brilliant garnet colour. Lavish, complex array of ripe red berries (raspberry, cherry), pepper, oriental spices and aromatic herbs. Rich and balanced taste with a fine tannic grain, it reveals spices, licorice and minerality in a long elegant finish.
92 pts - Jeb Dunnuck, October 19, 2017
“The 2015 Costières de Nîmes Vieilles Vignes reminds me of a top Côtes du Rhône from the likes of Janasse with its currants, black raspberry, spice, and licorice aromas and flavors. Rich, weighty, layered and even sexy on the palate, it has classic Grenache character, loads of fruit and a great finish. It’s just another incredible wine – and value – from this estate.”
Pierre Sparr Cremant Brut Rose +39016 $19.95
Salmon pink colour. Fresh aromas of soft red berries (predominantly strawberry & raspberry). On the palate, it is round and fruity with hints of peach. The flavours are intense, with lively acidity framed by a well made structure and delicate bubbles. An extremely lively mousse gives this wine an instant festive character. The finish is clean, dry and smooth.
90 pts - Natalie MacLean, October 28, 2017
“Superb quality and taste for the price! Toasty with some field raspberry notes. Bone-dry and refreshing. Here's your summer party bubbly. Bring it on! A terrific producer and well-known in Alsace and around the world. This bubbly is made using the traditional champagne method from only pinot noir grapes.”
Vicente Faria Gloria Reserva 2016 +146522 $16.95
Gloria Reserva is the perfect blend of three highly selected Portuguese grape varieties, creating a majestic wine that offers a lot more than expected. Deep rich fruit, which is met by round tannins, enough to give the wine a strong presence, yet remaining very easy drinking. Complex fruity aromas of ripe red fruits and cinnamon spice. Balanced and auspicious flavours, full of fruit, gentle spice and smooth tannins. An elegant wine by all measures.
89 Pts– Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2018
“The spice from aging in American oak barrels is evident in this perfumed wine. It also has ripe berry fruits and acidity as a promise for the future. The wine could do with some aging, so wait to drink until 2019.”
