Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico Riserva Famiglia Zingarelli 2015 +930966 $24.95
Ruby red colour. The nose is ample, intense and refined, with excellent variety of aromas. The taste is warm, robust, and elegant with a persistent aroma.
Food Pairing: This wine is particularly suited for red meats, roasts, wild game and dry cheeses.
95 Pts – James Suckling, September 11, 2018
“Aromas of blackberries, wet earth, lavender and blueberries. Full-bodied, deep and layered with bright acidity and a bacon-fat, mushroom, smoked-meat and fruit aftertaste. Soft tannins, too. A unique wine. Drink now or hold.”
J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 1500ml +16915 $47.95
The 2016 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is dark and dense to the rim of the glass. Layered aromas of black currant, blueberry and cherry are accentuated by an authentic barrel bouquet of hazelnut, cocoa powder, and dark roasted coffee. High-toned red berry fruit strikes the fore-palate, and follows with bright acidity and a full structure that is both dense and soft at once.”
95 Pts & Gold Medal - California State Fair, April 10, 2018
Dandelion Barossa Lioness Shiraz 2016 +357475 $21.95
Deep purple with hints of violet on the edges, indicating youth. Impressive purity of fruit showing lush scents of summer pudding with lifted red fruits, berries and a hit of cinnamon. Black cherries, Damson plums, mulberries and milk chocolate undertones. Generous mouth filling sweet blackberry, raspberry and plums cover the palate with lashings of sweet spice.
93 Pts - James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, August 1, 2018
“It combines heft with restraint and that's its key. Black coal, redcurrant, blackberry and clove flavours announce the presence of a big wine, but from there it just keeps the flow going, the party on track. No fireworks, no overreaching, no embarrassing leaps into the pool, and all the better for it. This is a hearty red wine to sit down and settle in with.”
J. Lohr Estates South Ridge Syrah 2015 +948240 $23.95
Varietal aromas of plum, black tea and blueberry are lifted by barrel aging on the lees in a mix of American and French oak barrels. A touch of spicy white pepper on the palate opens up slowly to reveal baking spice and pomegranate fruit on the finish.
Food Pairing: A simple roasted duck with potatoes or rare sesame-crusted Ahi tuna. For casual fair, try a classic BLT.
91 Pts - Rich Cook, winereviewonline.com, January 2, 2018
“Yes, I'm singing that song again -- the one that goes "J. Lohr delivers outstanding quality for the price" -- you've heard it before and you'll no doubt hear it again thanks to wines like this, a Syrah that walks a line between cool climate brightness of red fruit and pepper, and warmer area black fruit and ripe character. A lot going on here for your fifteen bucks!
Bodegas Altanza Hacienda Valvarés 2015 +423509 $20.95
This wine has a very modern personality with complex aromatic features. Reminiscent of the toast of the barrels in which it was aged as well as spiced, smoked, coffee, cocoa, chocolate and sweets. Its fruits are sweet memories, finding cherries, figs and a bit of licorice. It is characterized by the sweetness found in the nose but more intense. It has remarkable intensity of the soft, sweet French oak, which leaves a very strong but nice aftertaste.
91 Pts - James Suckling, August 2, 2018
“A fresh and silky red with berry and light chocolate character. Medium body, integrated and pretty. What you want in a Crianza. Drink now.”
Donatien Bahuaud Vouvray Les Grands Mortiers 2017 +140889 $20.95
Pale yellow colour with green hues. Fresh fruit apple, peach. Well-structured wine, nice acid frame typical of the chalky terroir of Vouvray.
Food Pairing: Fruit salads, spicy cuisine, Thai specialities.
Vintages Tasting Panel, November 24, 2018
“This customer favourite is a regular sight on our shelves and is typically crafted to be a classic expression of off-dry Vouvray. You can expect a lifted, lean wine with pear, peach, candle wax and a driving acidity. From an estate founded in 1929.”
