Susana Balbo - Signature White Blend 2017 +558734 $20.95
The nose has wonderful aromas of minerals, wet stone, white flowers & green apples. The palate is lean and crisp with a subtle tropical note laced through the finely balanced citrus character.
95 Pts – Tim Atkin’s Best of Argentina Report 2018
“Susana Balbo’s mould-breaking cuvée of Semillon with 30% Torrontes and 25% Sauvignon Blanc has rapidly established itself as one of Argentina’s best whites. Zesty, saline and complex, it has subtle grapefruit, nettle, green herb and beeswax notes framed by stylish oak.”
Grevepesa - Castelgreve Chianti Classico Riserva 2013 +344416 $22.95 – WINE OF THE MONTH
This wine, mostly Sangiovese grape, greets the eye with a very intense ruby red colour. It opens with a complex and elegant bouquet, with nuances of mature fruits and vanilla. Soft on the palate, well balanced with a persistent aftertaste.
95 Pts – Andrea Briccarello, decanter.com, March 30, 2018
“Very charming and attractive nose with herbal hints and menthol tones. Intense and complex on the palate, with generous layers of red forest fruits, spice and leather. A very seductive style, with plenty of charm and complexity.”
Fattoria Le Pupille - Morellino di Scansano Riserva 2015 +644948 $27.95
Great expression of a ripe Sangiovese grape with scents of marasca cherry and aromatic hints that is reminiscent of the Mediterranean brushwood. Elegant and silky, medium-to-full bodied. Fresh but fully ready, with lovely ripe tannins.
Food pairing: Perfect with typical Tuscan pasta-based courses, red meat or game, as well as with aged cheeses with mustards.
94 Pts – James Suckling, September 11, 2018
“Extremely perfumed and spicy with Chinese spices that highlight the ripe fruit, as well as hints of roses. Full-bodied, silky and succulent. Just the right amount of tension. Extremely long and flavorful yet always refined and bright. Drink now.”
Bodega Garzon - Reserva Tannat Maldonado 2016 +558916 $19.95
A juicy, full-bodied wine. Rich purple in colour with very fresh aromas reminiscent of red and black fruits such as plums and raspberries along with a delicate spicy nose. In the mouth, it presents a strong personality. It’s mature tannins and minerality transform it into a wine with great soil identity.
Food pairing: Roasted hunting meats are the ideal pairing for this Tannat. The most traditional combination is slowly cooked leg of lamb flavoured with sage, mint, and garlic in olive oil. Tasty with blue cheese and toasted walnuts.
92 Pts – James Suckling, January 7, 2019
“Iodine, ink, tar, crushed stones and dark plum essence. This has all the hallmarks of a fruity tannat, but it's in no way too much. It combines a lovely firm tannin backbone with tangy acidity, which carries all the way to the savory finish. Drink now.”
Wakefield Wines - Jaraman Shiraz 2017 +377036 $24.95
The wine has a deep crimson red colour with a vibrant purple hue to the edges. There are lifted aromas of dark berry, dark cherry fruit, plums and spicy overtones of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove aromas. This is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of ripe cherry, plum and blackberry fruit, with attractive oak characters of coffee and chocolate.
91 Pts & Gold & Exceptional – tastings.com, October 12, 2018
“Violet color. Herbal, spicy aromas of raspberry and raspberry leaf, vanilla crème anglaise, ripe plum, and herbal tea with a satiny, vibrant, fruity medium-full body and a warming, elegant, long hoisin sauce and leather finish with well-integrated tannins and moderate oak flavor. A craveable Clare Valley red; balanced, juicy, with savory herbaceous edge.”
Bodega Garzon - Reserva Albarino Maldonado 2018 +646802 $19.95
Pale yellow with greenish reflections, this Albariño is intense in the nose, with peach and citrus notes. There’s a freshness and minerality mid-palate that is superb, with remarkable acidity and a round, crisp finish. Food pairing: Excellent pairings for this wine are cod with cockles, citrus prawn salad, or traditional grilled seafood with a warm mango salad and beans. It is delightfully well suited to Asian and Peruvian cuisine, ceviche, or a fresh tuna salad.
90 Pts – Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com, June 17, 2019
“This 100% Albariño was stainless steel tank fermented and remained in tank on its lees for 3 – 6 months. Alluring aromas leap from the glass— lemongrass and honeysuckle galore. It rolls over the palate medium bodied and nicely textured with juicy palate flavours—honeydew melon, lemon pie filling and saline-infused minerality. It finishes dry, tangy and lengthy. This pairs well with local ceviche or grilled calamari under a squeeze of fresh lemon.”
Vicente Faria - Gloria Reserva 2016 +146522 $16.95
Gloria Reserva is the perfect blend of three highly selected Portuguese grape varieties, creating a majestic wine that offers a lot more than expected. Deep rich fruit, which is met by round tannins, enough to give the wine a strong presence, yet remaining very easy drinking. Complex fruity aromas of ripe red fruits and cinnamon spice. Balanced and auspicious flavours, full of fruit, gentle spice and smooth tannins. An elegant wine by all measures.
89 Pts– Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2018
“The spice from aging in American oak barrels is evident in this perfumed wine. It also has ripe berry fruits and acidity as a promise for the future. The wine could do with some aging, so wait to drink until 2019.”
Leopard’s Leap – Pinotage Shiraz 2016 +148205 $14.95
A unique blend of blackcurrant, ripe plum and spice, beautifully balanced by a touch of toastiness from the oak. An array of complex flavours that settle with deeper notes of pepper, mocha and dark fruit. A firm structure ushers in a memorable finish.
Food Pairing: richly flavoured pork and duck dishes.
Commended – International Wine Challenge 2017
Bodegas LAN – Duquesa de Valladolid Verdejo 2017 +391649 $13.95
Pale straw yellow with green hues. On the nose it showcases predominantly herbal aromas (hay, ferns) with hints of flowers (citrus blossom) and minerality. Fresh, intricate and sharp attack; on the palate it features the crisp acidity characteristic of the Verdejo variety. Its finish is balanced and lively.
Food Pairing: Ideal as an aperitif or matched with cold starters, fish, rice, pasta, white meats, etc.
