2006 J. Lohr Estates South Ridge Syrah +948240 $18.95

Rated 90

“Plush, plush, plush! Land a satin cushion of plums and berries, bounce to a basket of flavor. Full-bodied with boundless flavor and energy. Yay! Food matches: grilled back ribs, barbecue chicken wings.”

Natalie MacLean, August 1, 2009

Rated 4 ½ Stars

“Dark and brooding in the glass, this releases aromas of spice, dark plum and black licorice, as well as lightly toasted oak developed from the 15 months spent in French and American oak barrels, 25% new. Richly concentrated flavours abound—a J. Lohr trademark—with sweet cassis, dark berry fruit and earthy notes among them. Everything is in perfect balance. It’s medium weight, generously textured and delivers a lengthy succulent finish. This is very good value and a worth a multiple-bottle purchase.” (Vic Harradine)

2006 Aresti Reserva Merlot +726760 $12.95

Rated 88

“Simply amazing for the money! Rich, mocha deep with blackberries, plush plums and dark chocolate notes.”

2004 Gualdo del Re I’Rennero +664854 $68.95 (Limited Quantities)

Rated 92

Winemaker Barbara Tamburini is a rising star, and her l’Rennero Merlot is outstandingly juicy and succulent. Notes of ripe fruit such as black cherry and blueberry are backed by sweet spice and a rich, plush mouthfeel. The wine is powerful and chewy but also elegant and balanced at the same time. — M.L.

Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2008

Rated 90

A very beautiful and rich Merlot, showing subtle blackberry and chocolate aromas that follow through to a full-bodied palate, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a long, caressing finish. Best after 2008. 390 cases made. –JS
