The Winery
Coriole Vineyards was established by the Lloyd family in 1967, in hills overlooking the McLaren Vale wine region and Gulf St Vincent. The area is one of Australia's oldest and best-known wine districts. The original vineyard at Coriole was planted in 1919. Further plantings were added in the late 1960's and 1990's. The Winemakers are Grant Harrison and Mark Lloyd. Grant, who has been Winemaker since 1999, leads a team of three at the winery. Coriole sources fruit mainly from its own vines or from the vineyard of a neighbour. These vines are all situated in the "Seaview sub region" of McLaren Vale.
In the 1985, Coriole became one of the first wineries in Australia to plant Italian grape varieties, with the establishment of Nebbiolo and Sangiovese among its vineyards. The latter has become a considerable success, both blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and as a single varietal wine.
"One of South Australia's finest Estates, Coriole rarely stumbles regardless of vintage conditions".

The "Good Juice" Wine of the Week
Redstone Shiraz, McLaren Vale 2004, Australia
$19.95\btl + GST, 12 btls \case
Redstone is the name chosen for this wine, the classic Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Redstone refers to the ironstone that is so common in the vineyards and buildings of Coriole and McLaren Vale. This wine is predominantly Shiraz with a small component of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine shows red fruit/raspberry aromatics with a little spiciness from the oak. It is quite concentrated yet with a savoury element rather than very sweet fruit.
The maturity of the fruit characters reflects the quality of the older vineyards that have been used. The wine has been sealed with a Stelvin enclosure or "screw cap" as it is commonly referred to. The cap efficiently protects the wine from the air and in no way affects the flavour of the product. The possibility of cork taint is effectively eliminated.
The Food and Wine Match
This delicious wine cries out for a grilled Rib eye Steak on a bed of mushrooms with a bit of Redstone Shiraz glaze or try it with a peppered veal medallions on a bed of Rocking Rapini.
