Pago de Luna, Castilla (La Roda) www.pagodeluna.com
In 1996 the Dehesa de Luna Estate was purchased by the current owners, with a view to planting a modern vineyard. Their plan was to use only leading varietals of red wine such as Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, but they also planted som Sauvignon Blanc.
Currently 70 hectares is under cultivation. Given the success of the initial planting, and the quality of the harvest, the production of a wine that reflects the nature of these vines was a natural progression in the long winemaking tradition of this family.
Ignacio de Miguel, one of Spain's leading winemakers and recently recognized as Winemaker of the Year by "Sibaritas" Wine Magazine, was engaged to supervise the production. At the same time, Jose Ramon Lissarraque, considered to be one of the leading winegrouwers in teh country, was hired as a consultant.
