What celebration would be complete without the pop of a cork, bursting from a bottle of sparkling wine? There is no doubt about the fact that fizzy wine is a cornerstone of Christmas and New Year, whether traditionally made or not… which is the right one for this special day?

If you are going for a light-hearted day with plenty of fun and frolics, then there’s the crowd-pleasing, fun-loving Prosecco.  For many people, this lovely fizzy wine is enjoyed with a fruit forward approach.  With added Pinot Nero, it comes in a Rose style as well.  It does not shy away from what it is intended to express.  When in doubt, choose Prosecco.

If you are really looking to impress, and show your savoir faire when it comes to great twists on tradition, go for Champagne. Few beverages are more evocative and seductive than Traditional Champagne.  Whether it is Rose Champagne made with incorporating red grapes in the original blend (or exclusively with red grapes, to make a Noir de Noir) or the classic blended Champagne which is normally blended with white and red grapes.  All Champagnes and any other product made in the Traditional Method; the second fermentation has to take place in the bottle. There are several styles of Champagne which vary in levels of sweetness but they are always utterly delicious, and more than a little elegant.

And for something off the beaten track; did someone say Lambrusco?  Bright ruby red in color, the wine has a distinct violet scent. Dry yet fruity with fresh, pleasantly harmonious flavors and a lively effervescence.  Far too easy to enjoy but don’t just take our word for it.
